What DSIP is
DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is a naturally occurring linear nonapeptide — a short chain of nine amino acids with the sequence Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu and a molecular weight of roughly 848.8 g/mol. It is an unmodified peptide with no disulfide bonds and no metal-ion complex, and its N-terminal tryptophan residue gives it a distinct ultraviolet-absorbance signature that is useful for chromatographic detection. First characterized in 1977, it is sold on the research-chemical market as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder and is not an FDA-approved drug. These facts are noted only to explain why independent analytical verification of a given vial is worthwhile.
Why get your DSIP independently tested
- Short, simple sequence with no visual tells: a lyophilized white powder labeled 'DSIP' looks identical by eye to a cheaper peptide, a related analog, or inert filler, so identity has to be confirmed instrumentally against a certified reference standard rather than taken on trust.
- Lyophilized vial mass is not peptide mass: freeze-dried powder also contains counterions (such as acetate or TFA salts), residual water, and any bulking agents, so a vial labeled '5 mg' can hold noticeably less actual peptide — the net-peptide assay reports milligrams of peptide per vial, not total powder weight.
- Solid-phase synthesis of short peptides routinely leaves truncation and deletion-sequence impurities (a missing amino acid) plus process-related by-products; chromatographic purity as area percent quantifies those related substances instead of assuming a seller's '99%' claim.
- DSIP contains an aspartate residue and a serine, positions associated with peptide isomerization and degradation during storage and shipping, so the purity of the specific vial you received can differ from any batch figure a supplier quotes.
What we measure on DSIP
Each DSIP sample is analyzed by RP-HPLC-UV at 214 nm against a certified reference standard, and the certificate reports exactly three results. Identity is established by a retention-time plus UV-spectral match to the reference standard — the N-terminal tryptophan chromophore gives a characteristic spectrum that supports the match. We also report chromatographic purity as area percent and net-peptide assay as milligrams of peptide per vial; these are analytical characterization results, not a statement of quality, safety, or suitability for any use.
Every result is issued as a certificate of analysis you — or anyone you forward it to — can verify cryptographically. Testing is by RP-HPLC-UV against a certified reference standard; because DSIP is a less-common peptide, a reference standard may need to be sourced before analysis, which can add lead time. KMD Analytical is an independent laboratory — this method confirms identity, purity, and content but does not include mass spectrometry, sterility, or endotoxin testing.

DSIP testing — FAQ
How do you confirm a sample is actually DSIP?
Identity is assigned by comparing your sample to a certified DSIP reference standard run under the same RP-HPLC-UV conditions, matching both retention time and the UV spectrum. DSIP's N-terminal tryptophan produces a characteristic ultraviolet absorbance that reinforces the spectral match. Note that this is a chromatographic and spectral confirmation, not a mass-spectrometry (molecular-weight) confirmation.
What does 'net peptide content' mean for a DSIP vial?
It is the milligrams of actual DSIP peptide in the vial, which is not the same as the total weight of the lyophilized powder. That powder also includes salt counterions, residual moisture, and any bulking agent, so the labeled milligram figure and the true peptide content can differ. Our assay reports the peptide mass per vial specifically.
Can you test DSIP even though it is a less-common peptide?
Yes. Analysis requires a certified reference standard for comparison; if we do not already stock one for DSIP, it must be sourced first, which can add lead time before results are issued. Testing covers identity, chromatographic purity, and net peptide content by RP-HPLC-UV and does not include mass spectrometry or sterility testing.
