Vitamin B12 in its most common commercial form is cyanocobalamin, a cobalt-containing corrinoid — a complex small molecule, not a peptide. We list it here because it is on our test menu. B12 isn't a peptide — can a peptide lab test it?
Yes. Our method is RP-HPLC-UV, which applies to any compound with suitable UV or visible absorbance, and cyanocobalamin is actually an ideal candidate: its corrin ring gives a strong, distinctive spectrum with a maximum near 361 nm that makes the identity comparison unusually clear-cut. It is on our menu because customers send it — often alongside peptide vials — and the same certificate format applies: identity, purity, and assay / active content.
My B12 is an injectable liquid labeled 1 mg/mL — what will the certificate say?
For a liquid we report the measured cyanocobalamin content per milliliter against a certified reference standard, which you compare directly with the labeled concentration. Identity and chromatographic purity are reported alongside it. What the certificate does not address is sterility, endotoxin, or anything else about the liquid's suitability for injection — that is outside RP-HPLC-UV scope.
Can you tell whether my B12 has degraded from light exposure?
Chromatographically, yes. Light converts cyanocobalamin toward hydroxocobalamin and related cobalamins, which elute as separate peaks from the parent compound. If your sample shows a diminished cyanocobalamin peak with degradation peaks alongside it, that pattern appears in the purity result and the measured content per milliliter.
My B12 is part of a Lipo-C / MIC blend — should I order this test or the blend test?
If you want every declared component of the blend checked, order the Lipo-C / MIC + B12 test, where each component is its own line on the certificate. If you only care about the B12 concentration in the mixture, this test covers that: the cyanocobalamin peak is resolved and quantified individually even when other components are present.
